Metal playpen

A playpen isn't a smaller hutch. It's a boundary — it tells your rabbit where the roaming zone ends, which is the thing most free-roam setups are missing.

Assembly

What you'll need

  • Clear the floor in the shape you want before you start — reshaping it afterwards is harder than it looks
  • Two people for a large configuration, one for a small one
  • [TO CONFIRM: tools needed, or do the panels clip together by hand?]

Cleaning and care

Shaping the space. The panels are modular, so the pen can be a square, a long run along a wall, or an open shape with the hutch forming one side. Using the base zone as one wall is usually the best use of it — your rabbit gets a defined roaming area attached to somewhere it already feels safe.

Stability. A free-standing pen in an open shape can be pushed along the floor by a determined rabbit. Anchor one side against a wall or a piece of furniture where you can. A pen that moves when leaned on gets tested more, not less.

Jumping out. Most rabbits never try. The ones that do are usually telling you the pen is too small or too dull rather than that the panels are too low — more floor space and something to chew solves it more often than more height does.

Cleaning. Warm water and diluted white vinegar, about 1:5. Pay attention to the joints and the bottom bar, where urine collects and dries. Dry it afterwards rather than leaving it damp.
