Bunny Mansion

This is the biggest thing you'll put in the room, and the one your rabbit will take longest to accept. Build it, leave it open, and give it a few days before you judge how it's going.

Assembly

What you'll need

  • Two people for the panels, one for everything else
  • Short Screw
  • About 30min to 1hour
  • Clear floor space wider than the finished piece, so you can build it flat and lift it up

Cleaning and care

Day to day.  Lift out the tray and the loose bedding. A dry brush does most of the work, hay and droppings come away easily when the surface is dry, and much less easily once you've wet it.

Weekly.  Wipe down with warm water and a rabbit-safe cleaner. White vinegar diluted about 1:5 handles urine marks and limescale without leaving anything harmful behind, which matters because your rabbit will lick these surfaces.

Urine on the wood.  Catch it early. Blot it dry first, then vinegar, then dry again. Left to soak it will stain and eventually soften the surface.

Drying.  Dry the toilet tray fully before the bedding goes back in.

Checking it over.  Once a month, run a hand along the inside edges and the joints. Rabbits work on edges, so that's where wear shows first. Tighten anything that's loosened, a hutch that has started to rock will get chewed more, not less.
